The Yoga Retreat Owners
Teresa and Kes Kennard built The Yoga Retreat in 2000. With the vision of a calm and eco-friendly environment, surrounded by the jungle of Koh Phangan in mind, The Yoga Retreat was born. Embraced in the nature of the Island Teresa and Kes have created a balanced and realistic approach which they believe to be the secret of true transformation.
Teresa, Kes, and their son Jess live close by on the island and they see the retreat as an extension of their own home. Their daily Mysore practice takes place in the Shala at the retreat; they are always close by to offer their knowledge, support and assistance.
After many years of dedicated study with his teacher R.Sharath Jois, Kes recently received authorisation in 2016. Through his committed practice and ultimately his authorisation, Kes has been able to further develop his passion for teaching and enhance his knowledge of the practice, allowing him to live true to the yoga philosophy and to be able to bring this knowledge to The Yoga Retreat.
Kes has built a steady and ever growing following due to his life changing adjustments, he is able to help students learn great discipline and deepen their own practice; this devotion is expressed on and off the mat, with Kes being on hand at the retreat to ensure his students are able to sustain a daily practice once they have left the retreat and offering his support along the way.
Teresa comes from a background of performing arts; she trained at Laban Center of Movement and Dance in London; UK gaining an extensive knowledge in dance, yoga and pilates. Transferring these skills to her teaching Teresa was able to forge her path in the direction where she taught both adults and children a combination of dance, yoga and pilates.
Teresa is always eager to further her studies and knowledge in fields she is passionate about which led her to complete a 200 hour traditional Hatha Yoga YTT with BSYA and a 500 Hour Advanced Ashtanga Vinyasa with IIYA Yoga Alliance.
Since then Teresa has been able to combine both her teaching skills and passion for yoga in her life and bring them to The Yoga Retreat.
Through deepening her own yoga practice Teresa has discovered her passion lies in Mysore style Ashtanga; she continues to return to Mysore in India where she studies with her teacher R.Sharath Jois and Saraswthi.
Teresa is also a Master and Teacher in the study of both Reiki and Seichem in the Tera-Mai system of Natural Healing.
